The Mill House, Falfield in South Gloucestershire

The extension to this grade 2 listed house is an extensively glazed single-storey structure on the west side elevation replacing an unsightly conservatory. The extension overlooks the rear garden and has a glass internal wall to create a separate study area.  The ground floor rear wall of the house has been opened up to connect the extension to a new dining area and family room.

Above a previous single-storey extension that formed the kitchen a first floor has been added to provide a new master bedroom, dressing room and en-suite.

Externally extensive landscaping has included steps down to a new landing stage in the mill pond and new retaining walls and planting to form a new rear stone paved terrace.

As part of the negotiations with the local authority’s listed buildings officer we presented images from our 3D computer model to show how the extensions complemented and safeguarded the setting of the listed building.
