Claverton Down

Claverton Down

This existing modern property was constructed in around 2005 as part of larger residential development  and whilst the owners were perfectly happy with the size of the property they felt that the current design did not respond  to the adjacent stunning landscape or provide enough natural light to the main living accommodation. The issue of light was also made worse by a number of established beech trees , which would also need to be protected during construction.

The design sought to remove the entire ground floor corner of the property and provide a small wrap around side and rear extension. The extension would be substantially glazed to take advantage of the panoramic views across the adjacent pastureland and in conjunction with a number of frameless roof lights improve the quality of natural light to the enlarged family room.

A timber cantilevering canopy creates the appearance of a pavilion / garden building that sits comfortably within tree lined garden.
