About Us

Esmond Murray Architects are an award-winning Chartered RIBA Practice in Bath, Somerset. We have been operating successfully since the practice was formed in 1991.

Our experience covers many building types, commercial and residential, but our aim is the same – to produce design solutions that are attractive, practical, sustainable, sensitive to their environment, above all responding to the individual needs of our clients.

Our portfolio contains  range of Architecture services for a wide range of clients including; New Builds, Restaurants and Churches.

From our practice in Bath, we have easy access to the motorway and rail network, serving clients in various parts of the country. With clients across the South West including Bristol and London.

Esmond Murray MCD, B.Arch (Hons), MCD, ARB, RIBA

The practice was established by Esmond in 1991 after having been a director of McColl Architecture, London & Bristol. Prior to this, he was the architectural director of a multi-discipline design consultancy based in London and Bristol overseeing schemes in the UK and overseas. As well as architectural and planning work Esmond undertakes work in construction disputes as an Expert Witness and gives advice to churches and charities. In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar, golf and walking his dog, Bob.

Richard Williams-Lock, Senior Architectural Technician

Richard has taken a lead role on projects using his considerable experience with major housing developers. Richard likes traditional design with a modern influence and enjoys detailing timber frame schemes. One of his favourite projects has been St Johns Priory, where he was involved from feasibility to site supervision, and even laying concrete block paviors on site. When not watching his favourite football team, Richard can be found in the show ring with his French Sheep Dogs.

Ben Donadel, BA(Hons) B.Arch, PGcert, ARB, RIBA

Ben is now in his seventeenth year with the practice. He has considerable experience with respect of church, community and mixed-use architecture projects, delivering many successful schemes in his role as Project Architect and team leader. You may also see Ben performing with the band ‘The Unprofessionals’ in venues across Bristol and Bath, or walking his dogs.

Joe Watton, Assistant Architect, RIBA Part 2

We are delighted to welcome Joe back to the practise, having achieved a first class honours degree in architecture at the University of Bath. Joe is an enthusiastic asset to the design team. In his spare time, Joe enjoys running marathons, painting, playing the guitar and instigating new weekly traditions within the workplace to keep his aging colleagues on their toes!
